Some instructions that need to be kept in mind before using krill oil is it should be exactly taken as mentioned on the label, or as prescribed by your doctor. It should not be taken for larger duration with larger amount.

Patients having allergy with seafood or with fish and shrimp should probably avoid eating krill oil as susceptibility test to allergic reactions of krill oil have not been completed yet.

Patients undergoing medications like coagulopathy or taking some anticoagulants should consult with their doctor before taking these dietary supplements.

Patients supposed to undergo any surgery or procedure prior before two week should stop taking krill oil.

Need not to puncture or open the krill oil capsule while taking it, swallow it whole to avoid any miss hap.

Undergoing weight loss, exercise and diet should contain only a part of marine oils (krill oil) in complete program of the treatment which include proper diet, medication and exercise routines daily.

There are many drugs that get affected by krill oil so inform your doctor about all the medications you are going through which includes prescribed drugs, over-the-counter vitamins and herbal products. Try to start new medications after consulting doctor.

In case of allergic reactions like difficulty in breathing, swelling on face, lips, tongue etc stop taking krill oil and other medicine get emergency help if you think you have consumed more amounts of drugs.

While taking krill oil sometimes you will face less serious side effects or no side effects and talk to doctor to get aware of unusual effects.

Points to be remembered before taking krill oil:

Avoid using marine oil like krill oil if u have faced any allergic reactions while having fish, shrimp or any other type of seafood. Firstly check the label package on the krill oil to go through active or inactive ingredients that can cause allergy and if not sure have a talk with pharmacist.

Consult doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine if you have:

  • Diabetes
  • A pancreas disorder
  • Liver disease
  • Underactive thyroid
  • Blood clotting disorder or risk of stroke
  • If you consume more than two alcoholic beverages a day
  • Upcoming surgery or any procedure that might increase your risk for bleeding

It is clearly not revealed whether krill oil can harm unborn baby as omega-3 polysaturated fatty acids have a pregnancy rating c. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to get pregnant while using krill oil. Avoid using krill oil without informing your doctor if you are breast feeding baby as it is not known whether omega-3 polysaturated fatty acid pass into breast milk and can harm nursing baby. This medication is strictly prohibited to anyone under the age group of 18 years.
